Museums
Smithsonian Institution
Washington,
DC is home to the world's most famous museum complex. Encompassing
more than a dozen different museums and galleries and the National Zoo,
the Smithsonian is a "must see" on any Washington, DC visit.
The
Smithsonian's first building, popularly known as the Castle, houses the
Institution’s administrative offices and the Smithsonian Information
Center, and is centrally located among the other museums on The Mall.
Behind the building are elaborately manicured gardens. The Enid A.
Haupt Garden is a public garden in the Smithsonian complex in
Washington, D.C. Covering over four acres, it is situated between the
Castle and Independence
Avenue
and has provided a welcomed respite for Smithsonian visitors and
residents of Washington since it opened in 1987 as part of the
redesigned Castle quadrangle. This is a perfect spot for a
relaxing break or a quiet picnic.
The
Kathrine Dulin Folger Rose Garden is a quaint garden adjacent to the
Castle that offers a secluded fountain and colorful flowers blooming in
the shade. The four Victorian benches surrounding the fountain
provide visitors with a resting place where they can enjoy both the
beauty of the garden and the mist from the fountain. The urns overflow
with tropical plants and seasonal annuals.

This
museum sits on 7th Street, across from the National Air and Space
Museum. Inside you will find a collection of 19th and 20th century
paintings and sculptures in a striking cylindrical museum and adjoining
outdoor garden. Changing exhibits explore the newest trends in
modern art - the featured displays change, so check back often!
Closest Metro Station -- L'Enfant Plaza.
What
I found most enjoyable was the outdoor sculpture garden with a splendid
array of sculptures in a tranquil garden setting recessed below the
walking passers-by. Take the time to relax in the shade and enjoy
the art.
